The Poetry of Movement
Movement is a vital ingredient to healing from mental illness as is prayer and meditation. When you are moving you are liberating your mind in the most physical sense. How so you wonder? Well let me tell you. There is a complete science behind any form of physical movement of the body. This science is the medicine we all crave and desire but not even realizing that it’s only a few steps away, literally only a few steps away!
Alright so now you really want to know what the science behind the movement is. Say no more and allow me to explain. The human body which is perfectly sculpted by our heavenly creator was designed for ongoing movement such as walking and with each step you take your body begins to work up a nice dosage of this mental medicine. That mental medicine is “endorphins.” Endorphins are released in our brain when we are happy or excited about something. Movement of the body such as dancing or exercising helps to create these same endorphins. Oh so you don’t believe me huh? And you are feeling depressed? Moving your body to the poetical rhythm of your heart, mind, soul, and spirit will reap a fruit much greater than you may have ever dreamed. By taking a few measures everyday to express your poetry through a dance, walking, running, yoga, or any other form of movement you will lower you risk for many health conditions such as but not limited to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and depression. Mental illness is a catalyst for many other health concerns and if you can heal from it you will have proactively evaded many other problematic situations.
